At North Down Implant and Orthodontic Clinic, we offer a range of orthodontic solutions for children, the most common of which is fixed metal braces. In some cases, children will be able to ‘qualify’ for NHS funding to straighten out the teeth, but this is only in more complex cases where the orthodontic issue poses a clinical issue and threatens the child’s overall oral health. We’re still able to help in mild cases, of course, and we love being able to do so at a discounted price when using fixed metal braces.
Fixed metal braces are one of the most popular ways to address orthodontic issues in children because they get to work in such a predictable and successful way. Ideally, the patient will receive this treatment around the age of 12 or 13 while the child is still growing, and there is greater opportunity for development and success. We can, of course, provide orthodontic treatment to older children and adults, but it is often more complex and can take longer simply due to the fact that the patient is older.
If needed, orthodontic treatment is always recommended in children. This is not only because it can transform a smile, making the patient feel happier and more confident about their teeth and smile, but also because of the overall impact on their long-term oral health. The teeth and gums will be easier to clean and maintain, they may find it easier to eat and even speak, and the bite will be corrected.
Some orthodontic issues that we can treat in children include:
